Affair of the Heart
Every year in Oklahoma City, there is a big arts/craft show called Affair of the Heart. This year in exchange for working a booth for a friend, he is letting me put some of my work in his booth. This is what I will have for sale!
This is an old screen I found. I painted a rusty red cross in the center directly on the screen. The wooden frame is a hod podge of colors - blue, green, and white. Next, I added the green water valves and a painted red handle at the top. There is an old-fashioned looking key on one side with an old clothes pin on the other side. At the bottom are five hooks. I thought it would be great to hang jewelry on or maybe for keys...who knows! It was a lot of fun to make. $40.00

distressed black and added the turquoise hardware. $30.00
After digging around in an old grain bin filled with junk, I found this old metal frame. It was incredibly rusty, but I cleaned it up, painted it, and made it into a corkboard. $20.00

Old Wooden Shutter
This was an old wooden shutter I found at a friend's house. It was just plain wood so I painted it a distressed black and added the turquoise detail.
Wild Heart
This is my latest mixed media piece - Wild Heart. The background is a historical map of Mora, New Mexico. The heart was purchased but the flame is a piece of rusty metal from an old can I dug up near my mom's house. There is barbed wire at the top and two feathers on the right side of the canvas. It is 11" x 14".

Vintage Handkerchief Curtain
For years now, I have had several vintage handkerchiefs that belonged to my grandmother. I loved the designs on them and really wanted to do something special with them. Nothing ever seemed just right. Recently, I was working on decorating the small entry way to my house and needed a window treatment. On one window I used a small white linen piece that I found at a garage sale for fifty cents. But, I needed a treatment for the other window. I remembered the handkerchiefs.
I pulled them out, gave them a quick ironing and then wondered how I would actually hang them. I thought of curtain rings with hooks, but then I remembered an old piece of metal that I pulled out of the ground near my mother's house in eastern Oklahoma. I had a couple of pieces that might be the right size. They were interesting....an "S" shape. Maybe an old heating element? I went to the studio and dug out the two remaining pieces. Separately, they were too short. Together, the perfect length. I used some wire to connect them, then hung the handkerchiefs by simply pinning them on so they design of the handkerchief would be completely visible.
I really like how they turned out. They are unique and personal. This is the result...

Gold Box
Latest creation - This is a wooden box that I found in a junk heap at a friend's garage. It was originally plain, painted a dusty green color. I repainted it, distressed it a bit and added the topper.
