Painted Pantry
In my small kitchen, I needed a pantry space. I had an old beat up free-standing pantry that was just white laminate. Ugly. So, I decided to paint it. I have been on a red kick lately, so I started out just painting it red. It was boring. I went back and added a turquoise cross to the front and gave it a distressed look by dry brushing brown paint on top of the red. I am happy with the results!

Colorful Tree
Teaching second grade can be a lot of fun. They don't have a regular art class, so every now and then I decide to have an art lesson with them. Yesterday we created colorful trees. Below is mine. I will post theirs after they finish them.
We started out by painting the tree with black paint. After the paint dried, we added our colors with markers.

My Inner Artist Opening Night - April 1, 2014
Last night was the opening night for My Inner Artist - Oklahoma City's newest social painting experience. I had the opportunity to be the first artist teaching a class. We had a great turnout! Mimi's on Memorial was packed. I had never taught an art class before and the experience was amazing. I was so impressed with the uniqueness of each painting.
A few weeks ago, I painted the first "Wild Horse". I used my own paints and this was done in a very rough, abstract painting.
A few weeks ago, I painted the first "Wild Horse". I used my own paints and this was done in a very rough, abstract painting.
Last night, my interpretation of my own painting came out very different. I think I like the second one better. Both paintings are very loose which was great in helping me get out of my comfort zone and not worry so much about perfection.
The best part of the evening was seeing the finished Wild Horses that everyone completed. I loved how each person took the idea and made it their own. The students gave ME some great ideas. The creativity in that room was phenomenal. Students who at first were not happy with their work just needed some honest validation. I was so impressed with the depth and life they brought to their work. Below is a group photo of the finished works. This was not "fine" art, this was "FUN" art!
If you are interested in booking a class, visit Myinnerartist.com. We are still creating classes on the calendar so check back frequently!

"Oklahoma" Mixed Media
This 16" x 20" Mixed Media was inspired by my home state of Oklahoma. The feathers on the panhandled represent the eagle feathers on our state flag and the bison is a well-known symbol of Oklahoma. The words "Spirited", "Diverse", and Resilient" reflect a few of the qualities for which Oklahoma is known.

Affair of the Heart
Every year in Oklahoma City, there is a big arts/craft show called Affair of the Heart. This year in exchange for working a booth for a friend, he is letting me put some of my work in his booth. This is what I will have for sale!
This is an old screen I found. I painted a rusty red cross in the center directly on the screen. The wooden frame is a hod podge of colors - blue, green, and white. Next, I added the green water valves and a painted red handle at the top. There is an old-fashioned looking key on one side with an old clothes pin on the other side. At the bottom are five hooks. I thought it would be great to hang jewelry on or maybe for keys...who knows! It was a lot of fun to make. $40.00
